GASTROGARD® (omeprazole) and ULCERGARD® are the only products proven to work and the only two products approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA):

  • ULCERGARD is indicated for the prevention of equine stomach ulcers
  • GASTROGARD is indicated for the treatment of existing equine stomach ulcers.

In the past, horse owners have not been able to effectively prevent stomach ulcers in their horses, as no such product existed. And a recent study reveals just how easily and quickly horses get stomach ulcers (click here for more information). Now with ULCERGARD, horse owners can use a product that they know works, and for the first time, feel confident that they are helping keep their horses ulcer-free before treatment is ever warranted.

Horse owners should be aware that other products, including human antacids (Pepto Bismol®, Maalox®, etc.) and equine versions (Gastrolox, Neigh-Lox, etc.), compounded formulations of omeprazole, dietary supplements (such as Succeed) and Histamine Receptor Antagonists or H2 Blockers (for example, Tagamet and Ranitidine), are not FDA-approved nor have they been proven to treat or prevent stomach ulcers in horses.2-4
